Chakras
Wheels of Consciousness
Copyrighted!

This page for now just serves as a very brief introduction the chakras -- until I get around to make more detailed information available. Some of my other articles and information refers to the chakras, so I am making this quick chakra guide available for those who want an overview of the chakra system. When time permits I will write about the chakras more in depth. It is truly a fascinating subject as the chakras are wheels of consciousness, little eddies of energy in our subtle body, and their function affects out consciusness dramatically. The reverse is also true, the state of our consciousness affects the functioning of our chakras. Any healer or spiritual person will find the study of the chakra system to be very rewarding.

Much is spoken and written about the chakras nowadays, especially in New Age circles, and much of that is nonsense or clearly comes from uninformed sources. If you want to learn about the chakras, find out what the ancient Yogis knew -- they knew what modern New Age gurus could never dream of. I am often amused and sometimes apalled by what is being sold as chakra healing and chakra information. Fortunately due to my Yoga background and many years of spiritual practices, such as meditation, working with crystals and my experience in energy healing shamanic healing, etc, I have gained a deeper understanding of the chakra system than the average New Age person.

Personally, I find the western approach to the chakras very superficial and the names utilised confusing and misleading. I prefer to use the proper Sanskrit terms which have deep meaning and are not just a number such as first chakra, second chakra etc. These Sanskrit names have power in themselves, as Sanskrit is also called Devanagari, the language of the gods. When you say anything in Sanskrit it actually vibrates the "petals of the lotuses / chakras in your subtle body, purifying various nadis (energy meridians).

In my opinion it is well worth making the effort to memorise these names and actually use them. Because they are not yet widely know I am also providing the more commonly used names as a reference. Besides the classic seven chakras there are several others, less known chakras and psychic centres which are important to our spiritual development and our health, and of great interest to healers and spiritual seekers. I begin with the minor chakras which you should know of, below those you will find an overview of the classic seven chakras. Please check this page from time to time for updates!
